Infrared mouse

Picture
Basic Description
Device Name: SmartNav
Supplier: Natural Point Inc, USA
Website: www.naturalpoint.com

Product Description
The device as shown in the picture sits on top of the computer monitor and continually emits light in the infrared spectrum. We cant see it but if you point your digital camera at the device you will be able to see the infrared LEDs. The user sticks a small reflective dot on their forehead or spectacles which reflects the infrared light back to the device. Any movement of the head can then be detected by the device which is mirrored by the cursor on the screen.

Icebreaker Team Comments
We have found this to be an excellent device that we have used extensively in our computer assessment program. It is especially suitable for those with high level Spinal Cord injuries. We do hear comments from some people saying that it is unstable and erratic, but this is simply not true. This may be due to people's impressions from earlier models or from the device not being properly setup. It requires some other means to operate the mouse left and right keys but this can be solved with our 1Click device or by using click software such as Dwell Mouse.
